Having already established themselves as one of Scotland’s hottest young roots-fusion outfits, Croft No. Five now step decisively into the grown-up premier league, with the release of their stunning second album, Talk of the Future on 20 September 2004.

Recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by the band in their own Glasgow studio (housed in a reputedly haunted former carpet factory), Talk of the Future sees Croft No. Five expanding confidently from their original Scottish-based sound, to take in a wealth of wider rock, dance and world-music influences. It also marks the launch of their own independent label, Planet Five Records.

Comprised almost entirely of original material, the album opens with the sultry, pulsing, Oriental-tinged Elephant, and closes with the beautifully cool yet passionate Passing Train, a kind of Glaswegian talking blues for the 21st century. In between, drum’n’bass meets slinky Mediterranean café tunes - with just a dash of easy listening - in 80 Euro; raging rock-guitar riffs vie with a quickfire Celtic reel in Sputnik, while Party in the Arc splices scissoring Balkan tunes to manic house grooves, building to a euphoric trance finish.
